About
Sam Ward has over thirteen years of experience in producing award-winning media projects. As the Series Producer for Oregon Public Broadcasting’s Educational Media department, he provides creative direction and management for multimedia projects on a wide range of subjects. Currently, Sam is overseeing the production of Mathematics Illuminated, a 13 part series on conceptual math, and Across the Sciences, a 10 part series on interdisciplinary science. Projects include video content, written textbooks, workshop activities, and online interactive activities.
Sam played a key role in OPB’s initial foray into the mobile platform. Working on a project with the American Film institute’s Digital Content Lab, Sam partnered with Sprint, Lion TV, and others to design, prototype, and successfully deploy a mobile phone-based application, HD Road Trip, based on the PBS series History Detectives. The project created a custom guided tour of historic Fort Vancouver in Washington State, hosted by Wes Cowan, one of the show’s hosts. The HD Road Trip was launched in July of 2006 for Sprint’s PowerVision enabled phones.
Sam also produces web content for PBS.org and PBS Parents, including the award winning PBS Parents Guide to Understanding and Raising Boys, which launched in January, 2006.
Prior to joining OPB, Sam worked for Second Story Interactive Studios, where he created award wining Web sites and interactive kiosks for an array of museums and cultural institutions, including The Smithsonian, National Geographic, PBS, ITVS, MoMA, and the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Projects ranged from September 11: My Witness, a series of interactive kiosks to accompany the Smithsonian’s exhibition on 9/11, to Theban Mapping Project, a Web site presenting an extensive collection of maps, photographs, and elevation plans of the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.
